WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College women's swimming and diving team won a fifth straight Colby-Bates-Bowdoin (CBB) title and the men won for a fourth straight year after both squads defeated Bowdoin College on Saturday.
Colby women's All-American Kelly Norsworthy was part of three pool records in a 162-126 win over previously unbeaten Bowdoin, which lost to the Mules for the ninth straight time. Meanwhile, Evan Mullin had a pool record for the Colby men in a convincing 163-99 victory.
Norsworthy set pool records by breaking her own marks in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.88) and the 200 individual medley (2:09.72). She also just missed a pool record in winning the 100 breaststroke (1:05.89) and was part of the 200 medley relay team with Kelsey Potdevin, Maddie Given, and Courtney Chilcote which easily won in 1:49.78 (old record was 1:51.19).
Potdevin also set a pool and school record with a 27.58 in the 50 backstroke as part of the 200 medley relay team. Potdevin also captured the 100 backstroke (58.90) and the 200 backstroke (2:09.43) in school-record times. Potdevin was the final leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:41.91) along with Chelsea Heneghan, Chilcote, and Danielle Carlson.
Heneghan won the 200 freestyle (1:58.92), 500 freestyle (5:24.36), and 1,000 freestyle (10:58.63) for the Colby women (5-4). The Mules also received a win from Maddie Given in the 100 butterfly (1:01.99).
The Bowdoin women (5-1) received wins from Allison Smith in the 50 freestyle (24.77) and the 100 freestyle (54.40).
Mullin hammered his own pool record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.58 (old record was 1:45.99). He also won the 100 freestyle (47.92) and was the lead leg on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams. Andrew Peterson, Peter Williams, and Sam Wampler also were on the 200 medley team (1:38.47). Wampler, Ben Gross, and Kevin Smith were on the 400 relay squad.
Smith was a winner in the 500 freestyle (4:54.39) and the 1,000 freestyle (10:02.94) for the Colby men (5-4). The Mules also received wins from Peterson in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.03), Wampler in the 50 freestyle (21.69), Mike Finnerty in the 200 backstroke (2:00.35), Joel Alex in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.00), and Williams in the 200 individual medley (2:05.23).
The Bowdoin men fell to 3-3 with the loss.
