Welcome to Glacier Swim Club!
As a new family,
you’ll want to keep an eye on the
club calendar and read over the
handbook, but here are a few highlights to get you
started.
Website – www.gsc-swim.org. On our website, you
will find information about
upcoming events, your swimmer’s results from past meets
and time trials, contact information for people who can answer your
questions, details on charges and payments that have been posted to
your account and much more. Take some time to log in
and double-check your contact information (My Account in the left hand
menu), add any other email accounts that you would like
to be part of our distribution list and see what else is
there.
Folders – Each family has a hanging folder in the rolling
cart that will be in the lobby of the pool during practice. You or your swimmer should
check this folder frequently for communication from the coaches,
flyers about upcoming events, time trial signup sheets,
etc.
Dues – Dues are due on the first of each month. You can log into your
account on the website at anytime to view the activity and you will
receive email notification of your balance around the
21st of each month. We encourage all families to set
up auto pay on their account (My Invoice/Payment in left hand
menu). You
will receive email instructions on how to do this. There is a $3 administrative fee
for any month that you have a charge to your credit card to help
offset the additional cost to the club of offering this
convenience.
Swim Shop – GSC runs a swim shop in the lobby of the pool
which offers a limited selection of practice suits, goggles, and
caps. There is a
volunteer at the pool during most practices who can assist if you
would like to purchase an item.
Free Pool Use – Swimmers have complimentary use of the
swimming pool during any months that they have paid their
dues. The desk
attendant will check their name against a roster on their way into
the locker room.
Time Trials/Meets – There is the opportunity to participate in
approximately one time trial and one meet each month during the
regular season. All
swimmers are encouraged to participate in the time trials. It’s a great way for
swimmers to get a feel for an official meet without the pressure of
having other teams there. The times they achieve at time
trials are official times which can qualify them for subsequent
meets. Some meets are
invitational, meaning anyone can participate, and others require
qualifying times to attend. Signups for meets are typically
3-4 weeks before the event and 1-2 for time trials. You will receive email reminders
as the signup deadlines approach. There is usually
one home meet each season. All swimmers should plan to
participate. See
How a Swim Meet Works
Questions – There is a lot to learn about the world of
competitive swimming.
Don’t hesitate to ask as questions arise. There are usually a few
experienced parents in the lobby during practice. We were all new once and are
happy to help.
See you at the
pool!
